Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery. It removes excess skin from the upper eyelids (which can weigh down the gaze, or even hinder the field of vision) and/or corrects the bags and sagging of the lower eyelids. The aim is a rested, natural gaze, without altering the identity of the face.

Techniques
Upper blepharoplasty
Removal of a spindle of skin (and sometimes fat) through an incision hidden in the natural fold of the eyelid.
Lower blepharoplasty
Correction of the bags via an external approach (just below the lashes) or an internal approach (transconjunctival, with no visible scar).
Combined approach
Treatment of all four eyelids during a single procedure, depending on the indication.
Preparation, procedure and anaesthesia
Preparation includes a pre-operative work-up and, if needed, an ophthalmological opinion. The procedure is most often carried out under deep local anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation. Its duration is generally short.
Aftercare, recovery and results
Swelling and bruising around the eyes are common in the first days and fade gradually. Applying cold and resting help. Sutures are removed after a few days when they are not absorbable. Resuming social activities is often possible after one to two weeks.
The result is assessed once the swelling has resolved, over several weeks. No result can be guaranteed in advance.
Risks and limitations
- Like any procedure, it carries risks (healing, temporary ocular dryness, asymmetry) explained during the consultation.
- The scars, hidden in the folds, are generally discreet but permanent.
- Following the instructions (cold, rest, sun protection) contributes to a good result.
