LASIK Surgery in Tunisia
LASIK uses a laser to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, to reduce or even eliminate dependence on glasses and contact lenses. In Tunisia, Olea Medical's priority destination, your journey is organised from start to finish, in French.
LASIK eye surgery: what is it?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a laser refractive surgery that reshapes the cornea to correct visual defects: myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. A corneal flap is created, the laser sculpts the cornea, then the flap is repositioned. The aim is to reduce or eliminate dependence on optical correction.
Not all eyes are eligible: a complete preoperative assessment is essential (corneal thickness, stability of vision). In Tunisia, the procedure is carried out by ophthalmologists in partner facilities.
Goals of the procedure
- Correct myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism
- Reduce or eliminate dependence on glasses/contact lenses
- Achieve rapid visual recovery
- Be part of a rigorous assessment and follow-up
Who is it for? Indications
- Visual defect stable for several months
- Cornea of compatible thickness and shape (assessment)
- Adulthood, no eye condition contraindicating the procedure
- Realistic expectations, discussed in consultation
Only a healthcare professional can determine whether a procedure is suitable for your situation, following a medical assessment.
Techniques
LASIK
Creation of a corneal flap then reshaping with the excimer laser.
Femto-LASIK
The flap is made with a femtosecond laser, without a blade, for greater precision.
Alternatives (PRK, SMILE)
Other refractive techniques may be proposed depending on the cornea; the choice follows the assessment.
Preparation, procedure and anaesthesia
After a complete ophthalmological assessment, the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia with eye drops, on an outpatient basis, and lasts a few minutes per eye. Eye protection and eye drops are prescribed.
Aftercare, recovery and results
Visual recovery is often rapid, with discomfort, watering or sensitivity to light in the first hours to days. Vision stabilises gradually over a few weeks. Following the eye-drop regimen and the instructions is important. No result can be guaranteed in advance and residual correction remains possible.
Risks and limitations
- Like any procedure, it carries risks (dry eye, halos, under- or over-correction) explained in consultation.
- Certain corneas or conditions contraindicate LASIK; the assessment is decisive.
- Following the eye-drop regimen and follow-up contributes to a good result.
