Liposuction: what is it?

Preparation, procedure and anaesthesia
Preparation includes a preoperative assessment and personalised instructions. The procedure is performed under anaesthesia (deep local or general depending on the extent). A compression garment (girdle) is fitted afterwards to support skin retraction.
Aftercare, recovery and results
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common in the first few weeks. Wearing the compression garment is recommended for several weeks. Activities are resumed gradually; sport is postponed according to instructions.
The figure refines as the swelling subsides; the result is assessed over several months. No result can be guaranteed in advance and it depends in particular on the quality of the skin.
Risks and limitations
- Like any procedure, it carries risks (anaesthesia, healing, surface irregularities) explained during consultation.
- Skin with little elasticity can limit retraction and the result.
