Breast reduction in Tunisia
Breast reduction decreases the volume of an overly heavy chest and lifts it, relieving pain and improving everyday comfort. In Tunisia, Olea Medical's priority destination, your journey is organised from start to finish.
Breast reduction: what is it?
Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) removes excess gland, fat and skin to decrease the volume of a hypertrophied chest, while lifting it and repositioning the areola. Beyond the aesthetic aspect, it often has a functional aim: relieving back and neck pain, irritation and discomfort on exertion.
Breast hypertrophy may be present from adolescence or appear with pregnancies or weight gain. In Tunisia, the procedure is performed by specialised teams in partner facilities.
Goals of the procedure
- Decrease the volume of an overly heavy chest
- Relieve back, neck and shoulder pain
- Lift the chest and recentre the areola
- Recover a harmonious shape and better comfort
Who is it for? Indications
- Breast hypertrophy that is bothersome, physically or functionally
- Pain, irritation or discomfort on exertion related to the volume
- Good general health, without contraindication
- Realistic expectations, discussed during the consultation
Only a healthcare professional can determine whether a procedure is suitable for your situation, following a medical assessment.
Techniques
Inverted-T (anchor) scar
The most common for significant reductions: around the areola, vertical and in the fold.
Vertical scar
For moderate reductions, with a more limited scar.
Areola repositioning
The areola is raised while most often preserving its blood supply and sensitivity.
Preparation, procedure and anaesthesia
Preparation includes a preoperative assessment and breast imaging. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and generally lasts a few hours. A support bra is fitted afterwards; drains may be placed depending on the case.
Aftercare, recovery and results
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common in the first few weeks. Wearing the support bra is recommended for several weeks. Return to activities is gradual; sport and arm effort are postponed. Relief from back pain is often felt fairly early.
Scars fade over several months to a year. No result can be guaranteed in advance.
Risks and limitations
- As with any procedure, it carries risks (anaesthesia, healing, changes in areola sensitivity, possible impact on breastfeeding) explained during the consultation.
- Scars are permanent; their extent depends on the extent of the reduction.
- Following the compression garment and instructions contributes to a better result.
